Welcome!
We are Sow Thankful for you and very glad you're here. Here's a quick look at who we are and what we do on the farm:
Sow Thankful Farm is Tracy's dream come to life. People often wrongly assume Jeff is the primary farmer. Jeff does work very hard with Tracy and he is the primary "lifter/mover of heavy items," but she is the not-so-traditional lead Farmer on this no-dig, regenerative agriculture based farm.
We believe healthy food starts with healthy soil, so our first job is to heal the soil from worldwide overuse of synthetic chemical fertilizers & pesticides. Of course, we can not be responsible for changing the entire world. But we are responsible for changing our part of it. We are beyond thrilled each time we place a plant in the earth and find an abundance of beautiful red wiggly worms enjoying our soil. Every year there are more!
We offer an abundance of plant starts at the beginning of each season. We have veggie and flower plant starts all grown from seed with exceptional attention given to choice of soil and fertilizers to give you the healthiest plants to begin your garden. Tracy picks an exciting collection of veggie & flower seeds for which you typically can not find locally. We grow those seeds into starts that we plant and also offer for sale at Farmers Market and (soon) other locations.
We grow fresh, beyond-organic, heirloom vegetables, flowers and fruit. We believe healthy, well fed soil grows the healthiest, most nutritious veggies and fruit. To that end, our sweet Nigerian Dwarf goats and heritage breed chickens produce an outstanding manures which are composted and used as food for the soil in order to build our soil in a healthy, natural manner. This enables us to grow high quality fruit, vegetables and flowers in our gardens and high tunnel without the use of synthetic chemical fertilizers. Our growing methods are exclusively no till/no dig which means we neither plow or till the soil by any means. We very simply build the soil using natural compost.
We do not use synthetic chemical fertilizers or synthetic chemical pesticides.
We maintain a flock of a mixed variety of about 20 heritage breed chickens (a mix of several heritage breeds including Barred Rocks, Speckled Sussex, Black Australorp, White Australorp and Leghorns). Our girls produce beautiful, colorful, delicious eggs which we offer for sale when we have an abundance.
